Ilios: The City and Country of the Trojans - Hardcover
1976 Arno Press reprint of the original 1880 volume. Heinrich Schliemann was a 19th century businessman and amateur archaeologist who did extensive work on Hisarlik, a site in Turkey which is believed to be the site of Troy. While his archaeological efforts are now controversial due to damage to the historical site and artifacts, as well as a failure to give due credit to his colleague Frank Calvert, he popularized archaeology at the time and offered significant contributions to research around Hisarlik and Troy, adding credence to the theory that the Iliad and Odyssey were based on historical events.
